The collapse_pyr function is a quadrature mirror filterbank (QMF), which is often used in digital signal processing. The idea is that the filter is designed in such a way that it is possible to have a perfect reconstruction property. The filter contails hundreds of basic blocks of which this was the largest and most interesting.
