Publications

Professor Coldren and his group have published over a thousand articles and presentations in the field of optoelectronics. Many of these articles have appeared in the IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology, Photonics Technology Letters, Journal of Quantum Electronics, and Applied Physics Letters. Recent invited presentations include the OFC 2014 (Optical Fiber Communication) conference where Professor Coldren is the Sarnoff Award Recipient, and the CLEO 2014 (Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics) where he is the Plenary Speaker. Past invited presentations have been made at ECOC 2012 (European Conference on Optical Communication) and ACP 2011 (Asia Communications and Photonics) conferences. 2013 Reprints

Twenty journal and conference papers were published in 2013 from the research of, or collaborations with, Professor Coldren’s group. Copies of these papers, and in one case presentation slides, are reprinted in this volume. The majority of these papers originated from proposals generated within Coldren’s group, but a few are due to efforts that originated elsewhere and were supported by Coldren and his group members. As in recent years, the work had a focus on III-V compound semiconductor materials as well as the design and creation of photonic devices using these materials. The work spans efforts from basic materials and processing technology, through device physics, the design and formation of devices and photonic ICs, to the characterization of these devices and circuits within systems environments.

2012 Reprints

In 2012 some 36 papers were published in journals and conference proceedings that resulted within, and from collaborations with, Professor Coldren’s research group. Copies are reprinted in this volume. 2002 Reprints

In this annual installment reprints of papers published in the year 2002 by Professor Larry A. Coldren, his students, and his collaborators are given. The work is in the general area of III-V semiconductor optoelectronics with an emphasis on materials and devices for diode lasers and photonic integrated circuits(PICs) incorporating such lasers. The reprints have been grouped into four areas: I. InP-Based Photonic ICs; II. InPBased Vertical-Cavity Devices; III. GaAs-Based Vertical-Cavity Devices; and IV. GaN-Based Lasers and Materials. The efforts in the first two areas are further broken down into specific project directions, which account for most of the work in Prof. Coldren’s group. In the Photonic IC (PIC) area many of the projects are associated with the widely-tunable sampled-grating distributed-Bragg-reflector (SGDBR) laser platform.
