ERVC vs. SDVC

ERVC:

Efficient utilization of the capacity, since it is used on a demand basis.

Lossless communication.

Avoids the wasteful repetition of the set-up phase ("reservation-ahead").

Simple implementation using list structure.

SDVC:

Minimal pre-transmission delay (no end-to-end reservations).

Efficient utilization of bandwidth (deflections are rare).

Lossless communication

Packet resequencing easier than in packet-by-packet deflection schemes.

Both protocols deal only with constant-rate traffic (since buffer space is limited).
