ABOUT THE AWARD
This award has been created to honor the memory, innovative spirit, and contributions of Mohammed Dahleh to our scientific community and to the University of California, Santa Barbara. Awardees are selected based on their pioneering work, extraordinary accomplishments, and promise for exceptional contributions. Awardees are invited to deliver the Mohammed Dahleh Distinguished Lecture at UCSB in February.
ABOUT MOHAMMED DAHLEH
Mohammed Dahleh was a professor of Mechanical and Environmental Engineering and the research director of the Center for Control Engineering and Computation at UCSB. Under his leadership, the CCEC became a focal point for technological innovations. Professor Dahleh was an internationally recognized authority in the field of dynamical systems and control theory. His ground breaking research contributions reflected his wide-ranging interdisciplinary interests, spanning several areas of science, engineering, and applied mathematics. Today, the many research directions pioneered by Professor Dahleh continue to be followed by a growing number of researchers and to form the starting point for new discoveries and technological advancements. Mohammed Dahleh died in July of 2000 at the age of 39.
The Mohammed Dahleh lectureship was created to honor the memory, innovative spirit and contributions of the late UCSB Professor Mohammed Dahleh to the scientific community in general and UCSB in particular. The lectureship and the accompanying award have been funded by friends and relatives of Professor Dahleh, with the strong support of UCSB Engineering Dean, Matt Tirrell.

NOMINATIONS
Nominations are sought from the UCSB community for candidates to receive the 2007 Mohammed Dahleh Award. Candidates mush be mid-career researchers in any area of science or engineering who have shown extraordinary originality, and who show promise for significant future advances based on a demonstrated record of exceptional accomplishments. Persons with UCSB appointments are not eligible for the award.

Winners of the Mohammed Dahleh Award are invited to deliver the Mohammed Dahleh Distinguished Lecture at UCSB. The Lectureship and the accompanying award of $2,000 have been funded by friends and relatives of Mohammed, with the strong support of Matt Tirrell, Dean of Engineering. Prior recipients are

Nominations must be received by *November 20, 2006*. Nominations are evaluated by an independent Selection Committee composed of UCSB faculty from the College of Engineering and the College of Letters and Science. The winner will be announced by December 5, 2006.
