Are you ready to be a leader?

Lets face it, there is nothing unique about working on the same lab that has been taught for the past ten years.  Not to mention that it isnt exactly a show stopper on anyone's resume either.  But what about the opportunity to work on a project that creates a positive impacts on people, communities and organizations.  Now there's something to put on your resume!

2007-2008 Projects

Innovative eDucation for Environmental AwarenesS (IDEAS)

The IDEAS team takes aim at helping the environment by developing interactive games. This years game is an arcade-style claw game that sorts trash and recyclable objects. This helps familiarize young children with the environmental impact of common everyday products. A display board tallies the score as well as shows all the environmental savings from playing the game.

2006-2007 Projects

Intelligent train tracking and control system (SB Zoo)
The Santa Barbara Zoo has a popular train ride that does not have a good way of telling the central command station its exact location.  Currently the train conductor radios in his position but this can be sporadic and disrupts with his interaction with guests on the train.  However, if the position and status of the train is known, administrators could better schedule ride times and increase productivity.

"Camper Kids" child security system (SB Zoo)
With so many schools holding week long field trips to the SB Zoo, there is a growing demand for a child safety system. This system should make it easier for children who strayed from the group to find their class and for administrators to locate them.  Furthermore, with the integration of a fast scanning system, the zoo can effectively monitor the progress of events.  At the end of the day, the system would ensure that  children are released to only adults authorized to pickup.  A successful device/service might also show possible commercial value.
