Associate Professor Kaustav Banerjee
Winner of the 2005 International Research Award Competition

Kaustav Banerjee won the 2005 international research award competition sponsored by the Electrostatic Discharge Association (ESDA).

 

CNSI Director Selected 2005 Faculty Research Lecturer
Professor Evelyn Hu

Professor Evelyn Hu is the latest recipient of the UCSB faculty’s most prestigious honor, the Faculty Research Lectureship. Professor Hu was bestowed this honor “for her magnificent research contributions, her exemplary scholarship, her outstanding scientific leadership and broad contributions to engineering and UCSB, and her outstanding teaching and mentoring.” Professor Hu gave her talk, “Michelangelo’s Laser: Sculpting Form into Function,” on May 24, 2005.

 

Engineering Academy Adds Bowers to
Membership
Professor John Bowers

Professor Bowers was elected a member of the prestigious National Academy of Engineering (NAE) in February 2005. The academy cited Bowers “for contributions to the development of high-speed semiconductor lasers and other special optical devices for optical switching and communications systems.

 

Congratulations to
Professor Art Gossard
for being awarded the
2004-2005 Newcomb Cleveland Prize

Professor Art Gossard received the prestigious 2004-2005 AAAS Newcomb Cleveland Prize, the oldest award conferred by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), publisher of the journal Science. In a paper published in Science, the research team reported observing the “Spin Hall effect” –the first time it has been seen in an experiment.

 

Congratulation to 2000 Nobel Physics Laureate
Professor Herbert Kroemer

Professor Kroemer received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work in developing semiconductor heterostuctures used in high-speed-and opto-electronics.
